Nokia has just unveiled to the world the first handsets it designed with Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system on board, and it seems that they already are highly popular among mobile phone users.

Nokia Lumia 800, for example, has become the top selling smartphone at PhoneHouse in France during the last week of October.

During the week of October 24th – October 30th, the black version of the device was the top selling device at the retailer, while the cyan flavor of Nokia Lumia 800 was present on the ninth position out of 50 on the top selling chart.

The smartphone is not yet shipping to end-users, and the sales represent only the number of pre-orders that users placed for it.

Provided that things evolve in this direction, we might see that same increased demand when the handsets becomes available for purchase later this month.

According to the data from Phonehouse.Fr, Nokia's new device seems to be the most popular Windows Phone ever in the country.

As the first foray into the Windows Phone space, Nokia's device seems to be a good option for many users, which explains why so many people in France chose to reserve one unit for when it starts shipping.

However, this might be the beginning of a successful period for Microsoft's Windows Phone OS, which does need to impress users to regain some of the market share it lost during the past years.

When announcing the partnership that led to the release of Nokia Lumia 800 and its cheaper brother Nokia Lumia 710, Microsoft and Nokia promised great devices that will compete against handsets running under Android and against the iPhone, and it seems that they were truthful to that word.

Future Nokia devices might be even more appealing, boasting different design and great hardware capabilities, and should see even higher demand than the Nokia Lumia 800, though only time will tell whether that will happen or not.
