It could be released as a new, highly affordable smartphone from Nokia

Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia is the largest maker of Windows Phone handsets out there, currently accounting for around 90 percent of devices running under Microsoft’s OS, and it seems that it might not be too long before it launches some more such phones.

In fact, one of these handsets has been long rumored to arrive on shelves under the name of Nokia Lumia 530, and some more info on it appears to have emerged now, courtesy of sofica.fi.

A yet unannounced Nokia RM-974 smartphone was spotted in CamSpeed with the Windows Phone 8.1 operating system loaded on top, and they claim that it might be the Lumia 530 mentioned above.

Previously, Nokia was said to plan the release of Nokia RM-976/RM-978/RM-979 handsets as part of its Lumia 6xx series, most probably bringing these three phones to the market as variants of Lumia 630 / 635.

However, it appears that the company is actually aiming at making available additional affordable devices in the 5xx series, and the newly spotted Nokia RM-974 should be one of them.

The handset that emerged in CamSpeed is said to pack a 5-megapixel camera on the back and to lack flash, which would make it similar to Nokia’s Lumia 520 / 525.

Nokia has seen great success with its entry-level devices, as they currently enjoy the largest market share among Windows Phone handsets out there, and it was only natural for the company to plan more of them.

Should Nokia Lumia 530 be real, it will be released more than a year after Lumia 520, which means that it might actually pack better hardware specs when compared to its predecessor.

This would include a better camera as well, even if still a 5MP one. Flash might have been a great addition to the list of specs, that’s for sure.

As such, sofica.fi suggests that the Nokia RM-974 handset might actually be brought to the market as the first smartphone in a new family of devices from Nokia, supposedly Lumia 3xx.

On the one hand, this could make perfect sense, as the 5xx series of devices might evolve with new, better additions. However, it remains to be seen whether Nokia is willing to go even lower on specs and price with a possible 3xx lineup.

It’s also interesting to note that Nokia RM-974 was spotted with the Windows Phone 8.1 platform version loaded on top (build number 8.10.12324.0), as Microsoft is gearing up for the release of OS as soon as the next month. Hopefully, it won’t be long before the new device becomes official, so stay tuned to learn more on it.
