A new report from AdDuplex has been published today, offering some more info on the evolution of Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system, and confirming the uncontested ruling of Nokia Lumia 520 in this market segment.

As of December 2013, the smartphone accounts for no less than 30.8 percent of all Windows Phone devices out there, with Lumia 920 placed second, at only 8.4 percent market share.

Combined with the Nokia Lumia 521 devices out there, the Lumia 520 owns over one third of the Windows Phone market, AdDuplex unveils.

“Lumia 520 is the indisputable leader of the Windows Phone world and every month makes its position stronger and stronger,” the company notes in a recent blog post.

“This month it crossed the 30% mark and combined with 521 now owns more than one third of the total Windows Phone market. The only other notable change this month is Lumia 625 going from no.10 to no.8 (2.9% to 4.5%).”

Windows Phone-based entry-level devices are helping the platform gain more ground on the smartphone market out there, while also leaving flagship smartphones far behind.

In fact, AdDuplex notes that Lumia 1020 and Lumia 1520 didn’t even make it to the top 10 list of most popular Windows Phone devices out there. Moreover, they are not present on the top 10 Windows Phone 8 handsets either.

“Lumia 520, on the other hand, commands almost 40% of the WP8 market (close to 44% if combined with 521),” the firm notes.

“That said Lumia 1020 did move from number 13 to number 11 this month, displacing both Lumia 822 and Samsung ATIV S in the chart. Lumia 1520 moved from #19 to #16.”

Nokia remains the leader in the Windows Phone segment, with 92.1 percent market share. However, it still lags behind other major handset vendors out there, when the global smartphone market is taken into consideration.
