The smartphone may have been available in low stock

Nokia introduced the Lumia 1520 in India about two weeks ago and the phablet went on pre-order the same day for Rs 46,000 ($740 / €540) outright.

Several online stores and Nokia's webstore offered the phablet for the same price, but it looks like the Finnish company did not expect such a high demand for the Lumia 1520 in India.

Although India is an important market for Nokia and its feature phones, as well as Windows Phone handsets, it comes as a surprise that so many customers in an emerging market would want to purchase such an expensive smartphone even if it's worth every penny.

As WMPoweruser points out, the Lumia 1520 is now sold out on Nokia online store, but also at all other major retailers across the country, including Flipkart.

This is not the first time a high-end smartphone launched by Nokia gets sold out so fast in India. The Lumia 1020 “suffered” the same fate and was sold out pretty quick after it got launched on the market.

We suspect the Finnish company only brought limited stocks of Lumia 1520 in India, as the company was completely unaware of the high demand the phablet would face in the country.

There's no telling when new stocks of Lumia 1520 will arrive in India, but we suspect there won't be any available until after the Nokia Lumia 1320 launch in the country which is set for January.

For those unfamiliar with Lumia 1520's specs, here is a quick recap. The phablet's main selling point is the huge 6-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass 2 coating.

Hardware-wise, the smartphone packs a powerful 2.2 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.

Another strong point of the Lumia 1520 is the impressive 20-megapixel PureView rear-facing camera, which features Carl Zeiss optics, optical image stabilization, dual-LED flash and full HD (1080p) video recording.
