Nokia and FIBA (the International Basketball Federation) revealed a collaboration to create a new mobile service for FIBA, FIBA Europe and different major basketball championship events in 2007. The service is intended to give basketball fans the opportunity to receive the latest news, schedules, scores and interviews on their mobile devices.

"We are very excited to work with FIBA to enable the global basketball community to stay up to date through the new mobile FIBA services," said Harri M?nnist?, Multimedia Director at Nokia. "Nokia is about connecting people to their passions and by providing new mobile services, basketball lovers can always stay up to speed with the latest developments in their community."

Accessible through any internet-enabled handset, the FIBA mobile service will offer a comprising and user-friendly mobile video experience. Moreover, the mobile content will be accessible via the Nokia Video Center too, supported for now only on the N95 multimedia computer.

Matthew Osmon, Commercial Director of FIBA said: "We are delighted to partner up with the world leader not just in mobile device hardware, but also the leader in developing the opportunities that mobile technology offers. We are particularly amazed by the video quality the new Nokia devices offer. The Nokia N93i is an ideal tool for our basketball reporters to, for instance, record video interviews with players and coaches."

The N-Series devices from Nokia will have an important role for the FIBA mobile service. FIBA reporters will receive Nokia N93i multimedia computers to capture audio and video content as well as photos that will be accessible via the FIBA mobile websites.

Two of the future championship events that will benefit from the FIBA mobile service are the FIBA Americas championship in Las Vegas in August 2007 and the Olympic Qualifiers EuroBasket in Spain in September 2007.
