One of the smartphones that Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia has been long rumored to bring to the market before the end of this year is the Nokia EOS, supposedly a Lumia device packing a 41-megapixel photo snapper on the back.

The Windows Phone 8 handset made it in the headlines quite a few times before, and has re-emerged today, rumored to be already in testing at US wireless carrier AT&T.

Apparently, while Nokia has the smartphone codenamed EOS, AT&T decided to go for the “Elvis” codename for it, a move that manages to hide the device’s model number.

Nothing has been confirmed on this as of now, and details on the phone’s launch at the wireless carrier are still missing, but WPCentral claims that it might be officially unveiled sometime in July.

Furthermore, the news site notes that the upcoming smartphone will sport a design similar to that of Lumia 920, though it will feature a slimmer body.

Spec-wise, the Nokia EOS will sport the aforementioned 41MP photo snapper on the back, with Xenon flash and the Nokia Pro Camera interface, as well as 32GB of internal memory (but no microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes).

The handset is also said to include an OLED screen capable of delivering a 768 x 1280 pixels resolution, and a polycarbonate body.

Running under Windows Phone 8 V8.0.10322.71, the smartphone will also come with FM radio and Flip to silence. It will sport all the other features packed inside Windows Phone GDR2 OS, also known as the Nokia Amber update for existing devices.

One interesting capability that the device might land on shelves with will involve shooting two instances of the same photo, one at 35MP for saving, and another at 5MP, for easy sharing.

What remains to be seen is when exactly the new device will become official, and whether the rumored specs and features will indeed pan out, so stay tuned for more on the matter.
