"Close the laptop but stay connected"

Officially announced only two days ago, Nokia E66 and Nokia E71 are showcased in two promo videos that underline their business-oriented features.

The promos are not too different, but that's because the brand new Eseries smartphones have about the same target and purpose, allowing users to "close the laptop but stay connected". The main difference between the E71 and E66 is their design: the E71 is a candybar-styled phone with a full QWERTY keypad, while the E66 is a slider with an alphanumeric keypad.

At only 10 millimeters in thickness, Nokia E71 is one of the slimmest smartphones ever created, not only by Nokia but by any other manufacturer. Its highlights are the following: quad-band GSM and dual-band HSDPA connectivity (for data transfer speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps), Symbian OS 9.2 S60 3.1, built-in GPS, one-touch e-mail access, Nokia Intellisync and Microsoft Exchange, full HTML browser, Wi-Fi, Nokia Maps, push-to-talk, a 3.15 Megapixel camera with flash, auto focus and video, Music and Video players, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, FM radio, 110MB of internal memory (expandable up to another 8GB) and a powerful battery capable of providing up to 10.5 hours of talk-time or up to 410 hours of stand-by time.

Nokia E66 is a bit thicker than E66, measuring 107.5 x 49.5 x 13.6 millimeters, but that's understandable since it's a slider. Its features are similar, but add an accelerometer with orientation sensor. Although the E71 is bigger, it has a smaller display than the E66: a 2.36 inch one, as opposed to the 2.4 inch screen of E66. Sure, that tiny difference is hardly noticeable, especially since both displays feature the same QVGA resolution (320 x 240 pixels) and the same number of colors (16 million). Anyway, it would have been better if Nokia had packed wider displays in its new smarpthones, but I guess users will have to be happy with QVGA ones after all.

Both the E71 an E66 will be commercially available starting next month (July), for retail prices of around 350 Euros (540 USD). Until then, enjoy the promo videos below, plus a video that presents the intelligent text input feature of E71.
