14 DAY TRIAL // In a surprising move, Nokia decided to ship the Lumia 610 with an important feature that lacks in other Lumia family smartphones, Wi-Fi hotspot.
Wi-Fi hotspot is an Internet sharing function that allows Lumia 610 owners to turn their smartphone into a router and provide mobile data to up to 5 Wi-Fi enabled devices.
Aside from Lumia 610, the Lumia 900, both AT&T and global versions, comes with this Wi-Fi Hotspot feature enabled as well.
Those who own one of the other two Lumia devices available on the market, Lumia 710 and Lumia 800 already know that they do not have this function turned on.
However, it appears that Nokia included the hardware necessary for the feature to work, so they just need to activate it via a future update. Still, for the time being only Nokia Lumia 610 and Lumia 900 will have this Internet sharing feature enabled by default.
The Lumia 610 is the less-featured Windows Phone device launched by the Finnish company. It is expected to arrive on the market in April for a suggested retail price of 189 EUR (255 USD).
The smartphone is powered by Microsoft’s latest Windows Phone 7.5 Mango operating system and will be available for purchase in four different color schemes, such as White, Cyan, Magenta and Black.
Nokia Lumia 610 is equipped with a low-performance 800 MHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 7227A processor and packs only 256 MB of RAM. Furthermore, the smartphone embeds 8GB of internal memory.
Even though the Lumia 610 lacks a microSD card slot for memory expansion, users will be able to take advantage of SkyDrive free cloud storage service. On the back, the handset sports a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash and HD (720p) video recording.
The phone’s 1300 mAh Li-Ion battery is rated by the manufacturer for up to 580 hours of standby time (530 hours in 3G mode) or up to 6 hours and 30 minutes of talk time (7 hours and 30 minutes in 3G mode).
