Today, Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia officially announced the global availability of Nokia Chat powered by Yahoo! beta for its Lumia users.

Starting today, the beta flavor of the Nokia Chat application is available for download in all countries where the Nokia Chat service is available for the company’s users, as version 1.1.

“We know that a lot of you in Vietnam, Brazil, Italy, Turkey, and many other countries have been waiting for this day. So have we,” Nokia notes in a blog post.

“Currently, Nokia Chat for Lumia phones has been translated into English and Spanish. More languages will be added in the future. And of course, we're already working on the next version, which we hope to share with you shortly.”

The Nokia Chat 1.1 beta mobile client provides users with enhancements such as Tap+Send (NFC) between Windows Phone 8-based Lumia phones, the option to share a place, and an improved login process.

The application will enable users to connect to millions of Nokia Chat and Yahoo! Messenger users around the world, regardless of whether they are using the mobile app or connect from other mobile or desktop platforms.

The application also sports voice commands support, as well as Lock Screen Notifications, and the option to compose messages by using speech, all these available only on Windows Phone 8 devices.

Other features of the application include:

- Push Notifications and Live Tile Updates: Receive new message notifications, preview new messages, and see how many notifications you’ve received – even when Nokia Chat isn't running.

- Find Contacts: Scan your phone's address book to find friends and family who already use Nokia Chat.

- Tap+Send (NFC) Between Lumia Phones: Send your chat address, the details of anyone on your chat contact list, and Nokia Chat itself to another NFC-equipped Lumia.
