Today, Nokia unveiled a new dual-SIM member of its popular Asha family of devices, namely the Nokia Asha 308, a touch-enabled handset said to be nothing short of a smartphone.

The new device was unveiled with a 3-inch, scratch-resistant, capacitive touchscreen that can deliver a 400 x 240 pixels resolution, as well as with a 2-megapixel photo snapper on the back.

According to Nokia, users will certainly enjoy the fun-to-use Asha Touch operating system, which also comes with support for a variety of applications.

The OS and open environment for third-party app development “have earned the complete Asha Touch range full smartphone classification from global market research companies and analysts such as GfK and IDC,” Nokia notes.

“The swipe-inspired Asha Touch experience is fast, entertaining and intuitive. Scrolling and swiping on the responsive capacitive touchscreen is used to navigate and explore each of the new phones.”

Nokia Asha 308 comes to the market with 64MB of internal memory, 128MB of mass memory, and a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

The phone also comes with Bluetooth 3.0, Micro-USB port, 3.5 mm Nokia AV Connector, support for GSM 900 and GSM 1800 bands, EDGE/EGPRS (2G) and GPRS (2G), as well as with a BL-4U 1,110mAh battery packed inside.

It also provides users with access to email, (SMTP, IMAP4, IMAPS, and POP3), instant messaging services, SMS, Speed dialing, Conference calling, and the like, as well as with Nokia Maps and Internet navigation capabilities via the Nokia Browser for Series 40.

“As well as being connected to the Internet, we know that new Asha owners value being connected to their friends on social networks. That’s why Facebook, Twitter and local social networks in selected markets are pre-loaded apps on the new devices,” Nokia notes.

The handset also sports 40 free EA games, including Tetris, FIFA 2012, and The Need for Speed The Run, while also offering access to others more through the Nokia Store, such as NAMCO BANDAI’s Pac-Man, Ridge Racer Drift and Final Fantasy.
