The smartphone will probably be available from third-party resellers

Bad news for Nokia fans living in Australia as the company decided not to bring its 808 PureView camera phone in the country.

Australia is the second continent that won’t get the Nokia 808 PureView, after the Finnish company noted it wouldn’t launch the smartphone in North America either.

While North American customers may be in luck after all as the Nokia 808 PureView has been recently spotted at FCC (Federal Communications Commission), Aussie consumers won’t be offered the same chance, given the recent Nokia Australia statement.

Unveiled three months ago at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Nokia 808 PureView is considered one of the best camera phones soon to be available on the market.

The phone, along with the integrated PureView technology, received multiple awards this year, which suggests that Nokia’s work was appreciated to some degree.

Unfortunately, the fact that Nokia bets everything on Windows Phone hurts the company’s other projects, such as Nokia Belle, formerly known as Symbian OS, as well as MeeGo.

It appears that Nokia Australia is trying to sell as many Windows Phone devices as possible, thus it does not need another competitor for its own smartphones.

In this regard, the company told CNET that Nokia will not bring the PureView handset to Australia due to the fact that its focus is on Windows Phone.

Moreover, Nokia believes that Windows phone is the best fit for the Australian market. Last but not least, Nokia Australia confirmed that we might see different Nokia models with PureView imaging technology in the future.

Nokia’s statement comes as a reiteration of a previous post on Facebook, which confirmed that Nokia 808 PureView wouldn’t land in Australia through official channels.

Obviously, the smartphone might go on sale at other third-party resellers, but the prices might be a bit higher than Nokia’s 450 EUR (585 USD) suggested retail price.
