Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia announced today that its digital music offer, Comes With Music, would become commercially available in Australia on March 20, 2009. At the same time, the company will also launch its first mass market touch screen device in the area, namely the highly expected Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.

“While the hot-selling Nokia 5800 XpressMusic has already sold a million devices worldwide, Australians we will be among the first in the world to get their hands on a Comes With Music-enabled Nokia 5800 XpressMusic when it hits the stores next month,” said Emile Baak, general manager, Nokia Australia and New Zealand.

According to the company, the Australian Nokia Music Store includes over 4 million tracks from both local and international artists. Users will be able to download files either directly to their 5800 XpressMusic handset, or to their personal computer and transfer them to the phone later. Moreover, the service also allows them to keep anything they download, something that is not available with other similar services.

Emile Baak also stated that Comes With Music would be able to deliver great value to users while also pushing the music exploration further, as well as helping music lovers discover and enjoy music. “By combining Comes With Music with the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic we are providing a great music great offer on a great device,” he said.

The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone will be able to provide Australian users with features like all the music essentials, 8GB memory, a 3.5mm jack, built-in surround sound stereo speakers, a touch screen interface, a virtual alphanumeric keypad, a virtual computer-style QWERTY keyboard, a pen stylus, a 3.2-inch widescreen display, as well as a 3.2-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens and image and video sharing capabilities.

The company will make the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic available on various service provider plans and leading retailers starting March 20, 2009. The handset is expected to cost 979 AUD (around $636) with a 12-month subscription to Comes With Music. At the same time, the RRP for an 18-month Comes With Music subscription is stated to be 1109 AUD (around $721).
