In case Canada's mobile users are afraid the brand new Nokia 5800 XpressMusic won't reach their country, Nokia has recently posted a page dedicated to the handset, on its Canadian official website. Thus, an upcoming 5800 XpressMusic release north of the US border is confirmed, although there are no exact details on when this will happen.

Carrier-related info is also missing, but since Rogers and Fido are the only GSM/UMTS/HSDPA operators in Canada, it's very likely that they will both offer the new 5800 XpressMusic to their subscribers.

Officially unveiled by Nokia at the end of last week, 5800 XpressMusic is the first "modern smartphone" of the Finnish company to come with a touchscreen. Running on the latest Symbian S60 5th Edition OS, the handset is packed with lots of features, yet it can't be considered a high-end device.

The main specs of Nokia 5800 XpressMusic include: quad-band GSM and dual-band HSDPA connectivity, a 3.2 inch TFT touchscreen display with a generous 360 x 640 pixel resolution and 16 million colors, Wi-Fi, GPS and Nokia Maps 2.0 Touch, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headset jack, Music and Video players, stereo FM radio with RDS, TV out, full HTML browser, document viewer, 81MB of internal memory and an 8GB card out of the box.

Although it's a music-oriented handset, Nokia 5800 XpressMusic also features a camera with Carl Zeiss optics, auto focus and flash, just like any respectable Nseries smartphone. The camera doesn't have 5 Megapixels, as you might have wished, but only 3.2 MP – which is still far from bad.

The 5800 weighs 109 grams (3.84 ounces), measures 111 x 51.7 x 15.5 millimeters (4.37 x 2.03 x 0.61 inches) and includes a 1320 mAh battery, presented by Nokia as being able to last up to 8.6 hours in talk-time mode or up to 406 hours in stand-by mode.

The manufacturer said the retail price of Nokia 5800 XpressMusic was of 279 Euros, which means about 412 Canadian dollars, but the actual price of the handset for Canada will depend on the carriers' offerings. With a little bit of luck, the North American country will have the new Nokia in stores before the year's end, hopefully for a price close to the one announced by the Finnish company.
