One of the latest handsets the Finnish phone giant Nokia has pushed to the market in the United States is the Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition, which comes as an upgrade for the already popular Nokia 5800 touchscreen phone. According to the company, the new device is set to deliver lifetime voice-guided navigation for North America, and is accompanied by a car kit that provides easy mounting on a dash or windshield.

The new Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition comes to the US market with Ovi Maps for mobile, offering real-time turn-by-turn navigation both for car drivers and for pedestrians. The solution comes with enhanced safety features for drivers, and can also offer pedestrian-friendly directions, including park paths and one-way streets.

According to the company, its navigation solution delivers maps and search capabilities directly on the handset, without the need of constant data connectivity. Basically, this offers users the possibility to enjoy navigation capabilities even when they are out of their provider's coverage. “The Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition comes pre-loaded with maps for the entire U.S. and Canada, and users may also update and add maps from more than 180 additional countries at any time for free using Nokia Map Loader, a downloadable PC application available at www.nokiausa.com/maps,” the company added.

The specifications list of the new handset includes a 3.2-inch wide screen, great for viewing Ovi Maps, stereo speakers and surround sound capabilities, HSDPA Internet connection, a 3.2-megapixel photo snapper with Carl Zeiss optics, memory card slot for additional storage space, up to 35 hours of playback time, and a great deal of features related to its navigation capabilities.

Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition can also sync with Ovi Maps on the web, enabling users to: - Search for addresses and Points of Interest - Explore a location from the comfort of a large screen - Plan routes in advance for walking or driving and then save them - Save locations into Favorites and organize them into Collections - Places, collections and routes can then be synchronized over-the-air between Ovi Maps on the device and on the web.

The Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition is available at the Nokia USA online store, where it features the price tag of $299. The Finnish handset vendor also announced that those who would purchase the phone before December 31 would receive a $50 Visa prepaid gift card. However, customers will also have to activate an account with Ovi Store to enjoy the offering.
