Nokia has just announced that it has started the rollout of a new software update for its 301 handset. Those who own the Nokia 301 should start receiving software update 8.02 beginning this week, and it is said to bring important improvements and new features.

According to Nokia, this is “a major/global update and currently already available via Over-The-Air (FOTA) for some of the countries/regions.”

This means that software update 8.02 for Nokia 301 is rolled out in stages, so not all users might get it at the same time. In order to be eligible for this update, the Nokia 301 should already have software version 2.51 installed.

Luckily, we also have an official changelog published by Nokia, which confirms that this is indeed a major update that adds lots of important enhancements to already included features and capabilities, but also brings new ones.

Some of the applications and services included in the Nokia 301 will receive updates that improve user overall experience. There are also under the hood enhancements and tweaks that will certainly make the phone more stable and responsive.

Here are the main changes included in software version 8.02 for Nokia 301:

- Phone software stability and battery life improvements; - Share to Social Accounts feature added; - New icons for Music, Radio and Videos added; - YouTube icon, Transfer app and Lunar calendar (available in China only) added; - Updated versions of Chat, Email, Facebook, Nokia Store, Notifications, Twitter & Social Accounts apps; - General performance and usability improvements.

As mentioned earlier, Nokia 301 owners won’t need to connect their phones to a PC in order to download and install the update.

The Finnish company has stated that this is an OTA (over-the-air) rollout, so you should simply head over to Menu / Settings / Phone / Device updates and follow the steps on the screen.
