The world's largest manufacturer of mobile handsets, the Finnish company Nokia, has announced the launch of its 2865i mobile phone on the 5th of October 2006, for the customers of the largest regional mobile phone company in America, the Alltel Wireless telecommunications company. All Alltel users that want to get their hands on the Nokia device will just have to go the closest Alltel store and ask for it, because since yesterday, the 2865i can be bought through every Alltel sales channel available.

Wade McGill, the senior vice president of product management of Alltel Wireless has declared that "the Nokia 2865i handset combines a slim design and affordable price with the ability to download games and ringtones and surf the mobile Web."

The 2865i is a dual-band handset, working on 800 and 1900 Mhz networks, on CDMA/1xRTT plus AMPS band, and has a built-in Axcess service package, which comes along with a bunch of features: text messaging, ringtones and wallpapers, games, e-mail, web, Broadband/MobileLink and many other applications. Other important features are the Brew 3.1.2 Client, the 262k colors 128x160 pixels resolution TFD display, the Java MIDP 2.0 support, the 12 MB of internal memory (not very impressive in my opinion), and the Push To Talk capability.

The device is available at a price of 9.99 after the 20 $ e-mail rebate, at a discounted price with a two year service agreement, and also if you are eligible for qualifying rate plans, you can get it at a discounted price.
