Xbox Live gone dead on new map pack released. But is it the map pack...?

Normally with services such as Microsoft's Xbox Live everything goes smooth when it comes to playing a game online. Sure some may report an account hacking or even that everything is just too damned expensive, but never will you hear that Xbox Live isn't working and that there's no one out there. Or will you...?

Joystiq's guys tried to go online a couple of days ago, having downloaded the new Gears map pack and all, to get a good match going on. But available games were scarce, when normally there should have been dozens of games to join. So who, or should I say what do you turn to whenever something like this happens? The Internet, of course.

Naturally it was a system-wide issue, so gamers started calling Microsoft support to get an answer. Here's one Gears of War forum user's comment:

"I called Xbox Support earlier in the afternoon and the guy was a complete IDIOT... he said there was nothing wrong with xbox live and that it must be something to do with me.. he went through all that stuff like trying a different game and then blaming my isp... i must have been on the phone for about 45 minutes to an hour... To be honest, i don't think he knew and when he told me to hold, he says he checked with others but i dunno, especially when i hear that other people who have rang are being told other things!!!

He also said that it's Epic's problem because maybe they are updating something because of the new maps, but i don't see how they would be... they would do that BEFORE the new maps were released."

So first Microsoft-support-guy told him there was something wrong with his console, then he went on saying it was maybe because of the new map pack. Some support Microsoft's providing their customers with, huh?

We'll keep our eyes peeled for any information related to this issue just for you to know what's going on.
