The company denies plans to announce carrier agreements at CTIA

We wrote yesterday that Opera was expected to announce that it had made agreements with US mobile phone operators for the distribution of some of its products, as reported by the Forbes magazine on Friday, yet it seems that the Oslo-based browser company came to the front and announced that it did not have such plans.

The previous report stated that we might see Opera announcing at CTIA that it had inked deals with cell phone operators in the US for bringing its mobile browser to subsidized handsets in the country. Opera has now made a public announcement in which it denies any suggestions regarding any agreements with one or more US carriers that would have been announced in early April.

Here is Opera's public response to said suggestions:

“Opera is aware of statements in the media that Opera will announce one or more agreements with US operators in early April. Opera would like to clarify that it has no plans to announce any US operator agreements to the OSE in early April as mentioned in the media.”

As many of you might very well understand from the company's words, there are not too many things that could be added to the matter. For what it's worth, the idea of having a rather high-performance web browser on the mobile phones distributed in the country was rather exciting, as there are not too many users who would start looking for a new browser for their handsets so as to leverage the performance level.

Hopefully, Opera Mini will gain more market share in the near future on the US market, so that users will be able to enjoy the performance levels it is able to provide. And perhaps the company will consider pushing its product on the US market via carriers, although that won't happen as soon as rumored lately.
