It seems that the long-expected and praised iPhone 3.0 software won't be such a great thing for every iPhone owner who uses AT&T's network. According to the company, the update might not go so well with the handsets that work on a GoPhone plan on its airwaves, and it also says that the upcoming iPhone 3G S won't support the pre-pay plans either.

“iPhone OS 3.0 software update available June 17 may impact the data service for certain GoPhone customers using either an original iPhone or iPhone 3G,” AT&T said in a note to customers. “AT&T GoPhone rate plans will not be approved for use with iPhone 3G S when the new device becomes available on June 19.”

At the same time, the wireless carrier also says that iPhone 3G users who have a GoPhone account at the moment should be aware of the fact that “neither the Pick Your Plan nor the Pay As You Go rate are approved for use with the iPhone 3G at this time.” In addition, the company also provides two phone numbers that the mentioned users should call “to learn more about their options.”

Those who have the original iPhone and use a Pick Your Plan service with the carrier should not experience any problems when upgrading to iPhone OS 3,0, AT&T says, though it seems that this applies to those who have the unlimited Data Plan for iPhone added to their service. At the same time, those using a Pay As You Go plan won't be able to perform the update unless they choose an appropriate plan that allows for the unlimited Data Plan for iPhone to be added.

For the time being, it seems that AT&T hasn't unveiled the exact number of iPhone users who chose a pre-paid plan with the carrier, though some voices over the Internet suggest that the problems shouldn't affect too many customers. Even so, those who use a pre-pay plan and will see their service interrupted after the update should contact the carrier to fix the problem.
