Mobile phone maker LG has no immediate plans to launch a new Windows Phone device, the company confirmed today.

Although the platform is picking up Steam, the handset vendor plans on focusing more on the launch of new Android-based devices, and less on the designing of new smartphones powered by Microsoft’s mobile OS.

"The total unit of Windows Phone sold in the global market is not a meaningful figure," the company told Korea Herald.

LG was one of the first phone manufacturers to launch Windows Phone devices when the platform was launched in 2010, but it did not see significant revenue from them.

In fact, LG has lost significant market share during the past quarters and has only recently turned to profit in the smartphone segment.

Rival companies HTC and Samsung, both of which have Windows Phone and Android devices available for purchase, have registered growth courtesy of Google’s platform and left LG behind.

Thus, the company is determined to focus on the building of smartphones powered by Android, and will leave Windows Phone aside for a while.

However, LG will still keep an eye on Windows Phone, being determined to seize any opportunity that it could offer.

LG’s existing Windows Phones did not manage to impress that much, due to the fact that they lacked innovation, some suggest despite the fact that it had one of the only QWERTY-enabled smartphones running the OS, the LG Quantum.

Previous rumors also suggested that LG might have had some Windows Phone prototypes in the works, but none of them has been officially confirmed so far.

However, it’s worth noticing that Nokia’s debut in the Windows Phone landscape is expected to push the platform upwards.

Moreover, Windows Phone 8, which is said to pack various innovations when compared to existing OS flavors, should make Microsoft’s mobile software even more appealing (Sony reportedly stated that they were considering WP8 devices due to these enhancements).
