Finally moving on

Call of Duty: World at War, the shooter created by Treyarch using the Call of Duty 4 game engine, will be launched shortly and will again offer the player a chance to participate in World War II, either as an American  fighting on an island in the Pacific or as a Soviet soldier making his way to the Nazi capital of Berlin. Get it and enjoy the war, because it's pretty much game over for World War II at this point, at least as far as the Call of Duty series is concerned.

Noah Heller, who is the senior producer for World at War, told the Official Xbox Magazine that “I won't let your readers read into the comment too much, but we are showing the final battles of the Pacific and the European Theatre and that lets us put a close to the war. I'm sure game companies will be making World War II games for years to come and World War II is a very classic war. But we're happy that we put the war to bed”. So, this is no official and final confirmation, but it seems that both Treyarch and Infinity Wars will now be developing games which tackle other armed conflicts (hey, America also fought in Vietnam).

Call of Duty 4, which puts the players in the middle of a fictional war set in the modern world, has been highly rated by critics and very well received by gamers. It did a lot of things right, from creating a very believable atmosphere to unfolding a nice, tight and interesting story.

If the tradition of the series is maintained, then Infinity Ward is set to make and deliver to Activision the next game in the Call of Duty franchise, which will probably also tackle modern warfare. No data is available on the game and no real time table for an announcement has been revealed by the publisher.
