It will succeed Kaveri and should still be compatible with FM2+ sockets

We already know that Kaveri, Beema and Mulins desktop and mobile accelerated processing units will debut in 2014. Now we are looking at the future a bit further off.

The processors expected to debut in 2015 will be marketed, or at least referred internally, under the codename Carizo.

They will use Excavator CPU cores and the same package as Kaveri, in FM2+ compatible sockets.

They will also be limited to 65W tops TDP (thermal design power).

On a related note, no more FX CPUs are likely to debut from 2015 onwards.

This is because AMD doesn't intend to make Steamroller or Excavator-based AM3+ processors, or so the story goes according to a slide from Hardforum.com.

Don't give up hope just yet though. The FX line has been around for a long time, so its brand strength might just be worth preserving.
