Hello Games, the independent studio behind the upcoming No Man's Sky space exploration game, wants to deliver the sprawling experience it promised to gamers from around the world last year and admits that even its own team gets surprised by some of the things that are possible inside the title.

Hello Games broke out onto the indie scene with Joe Danger, a side-scrolling racing game that emphasized tricks as well as speed and cleverness. It went on to appear on a wide variety of platforms, from consoles to PC or even mobile ones, delighting many and assuring that the independent company can stay running and toil away at its most ambitious project yet – No Man's Sky.

The title was initially presented to the world at the end of last year, and it quickly went on to spark a lot of interest with the promise of delivering a procedurally generated universe in which players can take their own ship and explore all sorts of planets, making discoveries, gathering resources, and generally making a name for themselves in the impressive open world.

This summer, No Man's Sky generated a lot of interest as part of Sony's E3 2014 press conference and the attention has given Hello Games a lot of confidence as it heads into the final stages of the game's development.

"It’s great that people are so interested, but all I can allow myself to think about at the moment is the game. Right now, all anyone has to go on is potential. We want to realize that potential, but what that comes down to is us tapping away at our keyboards like we always have done," Hello Games' Sean Murray told PSblog.

What's more, besides delivering on its promises, Hello Games emphasized that even the team gets surprised during its weekly play testing sessions, so players will certainly have a great time with No Man's Sky.

"Absolutely," Murray said about getting surprised. "The more work we put into it, the more that happens. We each have a different universe running on our computers that we’re constantly changing. Every Friday, we have a review where we all sit down and play from the 'master' copy of the game, so we always see something happen that we never expected and had no idea would happen, and it’s a lovely feeling."

No Man's Sky is going to appear for PC and PS4 in the future, but so far, a concrete release date hasn't been offered, so expect to hear more in the future.
