Blame it on the Xbox 360

Square Enix is saying that the Blu-ray demo for FF XIII will not be released in the West but that it is looking into other options for delivering the same content as the Japanese have already seen to all the fans of the Final Fantasy series.

Yoshinori Kitase, who is a producer on Final Fantasy XIII, stated that “we currently have no plan of abroad, partly because we are going to carry on with the project alongside the Xbox version, so we really can't just make it available only for the PS3.”

Basically, the news can be spun around so that Microsoft could be blamed for the lack of a demo of Final Fantasy XIII in the West, as their deal with Square Enix made the game multiplaform.

Still, Square Enix is surely aware of the fact that there is a huge number of players who would be interested in seeing the game in action this summer and, maybe, even a big number of players who would consider buying a product that offers them a chance to also download a demo of the videogame.

Kitase added that “We hear that the demo version normally means something that you can download in the West, so that is a possibility we would like to check.” Thus, an announcement for a demo by way of the PlayStation Network and the Xbox Live Marketplace could be coming soon.

Still, given the size of the demo that came via the Advent Children, Blu-ray download is not the best of options. The best way for Square Enix would be to launch special editions of its other games, for all platforms, featuring the demo. Surely sales would spike, which would be good news for the publisher, while players would be thankful for getting their hands on the demo.
