Nintendo of America has announced that it has hired Scott Moffitt as the new executive vice president that will be in charge of Sales & Marketing at the company, with his activity beginning on May 9.

Moffitt will report directly to the overall leader of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aime, and will be charged with reversing the sales trend that has seen the Nintendo Wii lose ground to the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PlayStation 3 from Sony since the start of the year.

Prior to moving to Nintendo of America, Scott Moffitt had been working at the Consumer Goods division of Henkel, where he was also in charge of the North American market and was involved with brands like Dial, Right Guard, Tone and Pure & Natural.

He is credited with having remade the image of some core brands during his time at Henkel.

Moffitt has a bachelor's degree in finance from the Arizone State University and an MBA obtained from the Kellogg School of Management at the Northwestern University

Reggie Fils-Aime, who is the president and the chief executive officer of Nintendo of America, has stated when the appointment was made that, “Scott Moffitt makes a marvelous addition to the Nintendo team. His expertise in driving growth will be a terrific asset as we build momentum for the Nintendo 3DS system and continue to reach new audiences for the Wii console.”

Moffit himself has said, “Nintendo is a brand unlike any other. I look forward to helping shape the company's future for all kinds of players.”

At the moment, Nintendo needs to find a way of at least stopping the sales drop of the Wii, probably through more cuts in the price of the device, and Moffitt will probably also be a central player in the marketing efforts for the much rumored Wii 2.
