The Japanese videogames market seems to still have the early year blues as sales of hardware continue to go down, although in less spectacular fashion, while the videogame chart itself sees no new number one this week. The PlayStation Portable from Sony is the best selling individual console, while the Nintendo DS line up, which is made up of three different models, is the best selling brand on the Japanese market.

The PSP has seen sales go to 39,293 units, down from 42,163 during the previous week, with the second place in sales going to the Nintendo Wii home console, which has seen a small increase in the units moved to gamers, from 36,149 to about 37,500. Another Nintendo made console, the LL version of the DS, which attracts buyers with its bigger than usual screen, has seen sales of 27,586, down about half a thousand over the previous seven-day period.

The PlayStation 3 continues to sell pretty well, with sales reaching 24,811 units, while the DSi is in fifth place, with sales of 18,082 handhelds. Other devices only managed to slightly go over the 5,000 mark, with the DS Lite still succeeding in attracting customers, despite better options being available, and with the Xbox 360 from Microsoft selling better than the PlayStation 2 and the Go, the mobile console that was supposed to solve the piracy problem of the PlayStation Portable.

When it comes to videogames, the biggest seller continues to be God Eater, the adventure title released by Namco Bandai for the PlayStation Portable. It managed to sell 110,000 units in its second week on shelves, beating out Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Reverie, the Square Enix made role playing experience for the Nintendo DS, which only moved 80,000 copies.

Third place went to New Super Mario Bros. Wii from Nintendo that dropped to 59,000 units sold. The first new entry in the chart is The Prince of Tennis: Motto Gakuensai no Oujisama - More Sweet Edition from Konami for the DS, while Friends Collection is in fifth place.
