It's the end of the gaming world as we know it...

Yeah sure, you'll mod your console to play the backups you made to your original CDs and DVDs... Who buys this excuse nowadays? Mods are as illegal as downloading games and playing them on your hacked console... However, the illicit gaming industry can't be stopped from evolving, from the controversial PSP homebrewers to the modchip makers.

While some of the homebrew software was really useful for the console owners, improving the performance of their gaming device, others are just meant to allow gamers to play "backups". For example, the PSP Slim was hacked a couple of days after surfacing and this happens all the time with Sony's firmwares and consoles. We can only admire the Wii's longevity as it took those hackers quite a while to crack it open and develop a modchip for the best-selling console of the year.

I'll say it again for those who haven't read my previous articles regarding the whole modding process: you're gradually pulling down the sales of famous titles and slowly ruining game developers, specially those small companies that just want to get a name in the industry... If everyone modded consoles, we wouldn't be buying games, the game producers wouldn't be making a profit, then we wouldn't be able to play games any more.... It's a vicious circle, which is only kept from engulfing the industry by the super protection of certain famous titles from hacking.

Halo 3, BioShock and other great names, barely got hacked by the gaming pirates, that being one of the reasons for their huge sales figures. The Wii was an example of un-modable console till now.... Is the underground industry going to spoil the best gaming experience and the most original control system by tainting the Wii? Let's hope not....
