The Nintendo Wii is a hugely successful console, gaining a big amount of popularity all over the world. But, while it has introduced a lot of people into gaming and has appeared in many households, it has yet to achieve the status of full-pledged gaming console, at least in the eyes of the more experienced, hardcore gamers.

They still prefer the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 for their core gaming needs, and this fact, while having less of an impact on sales, isn't to Nintendo's liking. Even though he has talked about this problem many times and said that things would look up in the future, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime has revealed that, with games such as The Conduit or Dead Space: Extraction, gamers can now proudly say that they own a Wii, and that players of Halo or other hardcore titles will certainly be attracted by it.

“The near-term opportunity is the consumer who owns a PS3 or an Xbox 360 and has been bad-mouthing Wii to their friends. We can reach that consumer with games like The Conduit or Tiger Woods with Wii Motion Plus,” Fils-Aime says. “We think we win over the Halo audience with something like The Conduit, a multi-player, online, shooting experience, or Dead Space Extraction. And you know what? Once those people buy into Wii, they'll go buy Mario Kart or Wii Fit Plus.”

What do you think, hardcore gamers? Will titles like the ones enumerated by Fils-Aime attract you to the Wii or make it even a viable purchase, even in this time of economic recession? And will they make you think more fondly of games that are extremely popular with casual players, but aren't as demanded by experienced ones? Leave us a comment with your thoughts.
