When needed, something will be developed

Nintendo will be among the few companies that will surely have a merry Christmas, as sales will keep on increasing during the upcoming holiday season, as a lot of people will want to buy a Wii or a DS console. The ascending trend, that started when the two gaming devices launched, has never stopped and the company must be hoping it will go on in the following period.

We have already heard the Nintendo of America president, Reggie Fils-Aime, urge customers who wanted to buy a Wii or a DS to do it as early as possible, because the company could not guarantee that the stocks would be enough to satisfy the huge demand during the holiday shopping frenzy. The charismatic executive has recently talked to Reuteurs about the plans the Japanese company had for a fresh console.

He revealed that the Wii appeared because new ideas popped in the company, and that it was developed in order to bring those ideas to life. He added that if the company got new ideas, and really decided where home entertainment was going, then a fresh console would be made. He also expressed his faith in the Wii and DS, saying that they would both be available for a long time.

“We believe the role of a new console, a new system, is to bring great new entertainment ideas to life. We launched the Wii and DS when we had great ideas that would benefit either from a touch screen or from a Wii remote. We will consider the launch of new consoles when we have got great new entertaining ideas that can only be done with a new console. As we sit here today the Wii console has a long run ahead of it, the DS too. At some point we will launch the DSi here in the Americas. So as we look at the near term for us its all about maximizing the opportunity with the Wii and DS.”

These are pretty interesting statements reinforcing the idea that a console's lifetime is pretty long, and that no new products will be made by the Japanese company. Without a doubt, a lot of people would've wanted the Wii to support better graphics, but in the end, the console still sells, and Nintendo is quite content with that.
