Nintendo has announced that it will be participating in the Consumer Electronics Show in 2011, marking its first appearance at the exhibition event in 16 years, showing that the company is eager to use the event in order to promote its upcoming hardware, probably with a focus on the Nintendo 3DS handheld.

CES will be held in Las Vegas between January 6 and 9 of next year and will have a growing focus on the video game industry.

It will have a “Gaming Showcase” section which will see Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, AMD, HP, Intel, Lenovo, LevelUp, Logitech and Nokia take part with publisher and developers like Warner and DreamWorks also involved.

Karen Chupka, who is a representatie of CES organizer CEA, has stated, “With the gaming market expected to generate $20.3 billion in 2010, the International CES is the must-stop hub for innovative gaming products, and will allow CES attendees to experience the future of gaming from an amazing range of innovative companies.”

Nintendo has not said exactly what it plans to bring to CES but the main focus will probably be on the Nintendo 3DS, the new device that is set to deliver three dimensional gaming experiences without asking the player to put on any specialized glasses.

The new handheld is set to be launched in Japan on February 26,2011 and is scheduled to arrive in Europe and in the United States about one month later, before Nintendo ends its fiscal year.

The device will probably revolutionize gaming when it arrives, leading to a wider adoption for the 3D and to a push for home solutions which also do not require glasses.

Nintendo is also widely rumored to be working on a follow up for the Nintendo Wii home console, presumably with High Definition capabilities and more storage space.

CES would be a good venue to unveil it and give out the first details, managing to preempt the big announcements other companies will be saving for E3 in June.
