Quite a modest company

Nintendo has definitely been on a high ascending trend ever since it launched the Wii console and DS handheld, a few years ago. Big sales have been registered, placing the Japanese company on top of every chart. It has left its main rivals, Microsoft and Sony behind, now fighting for the second place.

Although the financial crisis is affecting almost every kind of industry out there, Nintendo doesn't worry and says that its products will continue to sell, largely due to the fact that they offer the most affordable kind of entertainment, and that they appeal to a large market. These facts have placed the company's products on top of every customer's wish list, thus guaranteeing huge sales, even in these troubled times, says Satoru Iwata, the president of Nintendo.

He recently talked with The Guardian. He believes that when people have money, they usually buy the top three things on their wish list, but now, they can only afford the first thing. “When the economy is strong, people tend to buy three things from the top of their wish list. But when things are bad, people often buy only the first thing on their list. Fortunately for us a lot of shoppers put our products at the top of their list.”

Quite an interesting statement, backed up by sales results, as Nintendo has sold over 800,000 products during the Thanksgiving week, and registered even bigger sales on Black Friday, the day that marks the beginning of the price cuts in various stores.

Iwata's statement comes to confirm those made by the president of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aime, who declared that the company was very optimistic about the holiday sales, while other corporations were cautiously optimistic, citing the financial crisis as the main reason.

All in all, it definitely sounds like the Japanese company will have a very happy holiday season.
