Pokemon X & Y is getting close to its launch date and the development team working on the newest creature-powered title hopes that players will take the time to enjoy each of the monsters and characters because a lot of resources were used to create them.

Junichi Masuda, the leader of developer Game Freak, tells VG247 that, “We have a team of 20 different graphic designers who are responsible for coming up with the Pokémon design themselves, and then there’s a team of five people who actually judge the designs, and are responsible for deciding which Pokémon go into the final games.”

The teams take into account not only the design and combat abilities, but also secondary traits like the place where the Pokemon sleeps and his eating habits.

The developer adds, “It’s not just about the design, as a lot of thought goes into creating each individual Pokémon. On any particular, individual Pokémon the process to creating it can be anywhere between three months, and in the longest cases up to half a year.”

And the individual design process for Pokemon video games does not even begin until the company decides exactly what is the target audience of the experience.

Junichi Masuda says that Game Freak holds extensive discussions in order to decide whether the game is aimed at children or adults, mostly boys or mostly girls.

Pokemon X &Y is designed to introduce a range of new creatures for players to evolve and use.

The battle mechanics remain the same, but the team says that there’s more content to explore and enjoy than in any other title in the franchise.

Pokemon X &Y offers different bonuses based on the version a player buys and will be out on October 12 on the Nintendo 3DS handheld and on the 2DS.
