DSi against Wii

For its latest devices, the Japanese console giant Nintendo has used some very interesting terms. We all remember the first time when we heard the name of the Wii console, which sparked a variety of jokes, but, in the end, really stood for “we,” as it made families and friends gather together and spend quality time while playing on it.

The latest device unveiled by the company, the DSi, has also sparked a few discussions about what the “i” stands for. Some said it stood for International, like the one used for mobile phones, others claimed that it stood for Improved, as it had new features and better hardware than the first DS and its subsequent revamp, the DS Lite.

Now, as the DSi has just been launched in North America, David Young, one of the executives from the American branch of Nintendo, has revealed just what the “i” stands for, emphasizing the fact that the new device offers a wide variety of customization options for each user.

"The DSi is really about the 'individual' gamers. For instance, the Wii console is really meant to be a shared experience for families and friends, where even while you can share pictures and share the fun with multiplayer on the DSi, it's really designed to be an individual experience. My DSi is going to be different from your DSi - it's going to have my pictures, my music and my DSiWare, so it's going to be very personalized, and that's sort of the idea of the Nintendo DSi. It's for all of the users to personalize their gaming experience and make it their own."

So, there you have it, Nintendo has understood the fact that a lot of people want their own personalized experience, and, through the DSi, it aims at offering just that to everyone.

Hopefully, more and more new things will arrive for the DSi in the near future, including fresh DSiWare titles and applications.
