The United Kingdom market is a very important one for videogames and Nintendo seems to be dominating it in a big way. Looking at the videogame chart provided by GfK Chart Track, Nintendo takes three of the top spots, while six of the first ten games are released by the Japanese publisher.

The GfK Chart Track top ten is single platform, meaning that sales for a game are calculated separately for each platform on which they are released, giving Nintendo, which has the biggest installed based in both handhelds, with the DS, and home consoles, with the Wii, a distinct advantage.

Wii Fit is the best sold videogame, followed by Wii Play and Mario Kart Wii. All three games were released in 2008 and have been present about a whole year in the charts in the United Kingdom.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village is at number four, with Killzone 2 for the PlayStation 3 being the first game not using a Nintendo platform. Resident Evil 5 for the Xbox 360 is coming at number six, followed by Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training, The Sims 3, Call of Duty: World At War, and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games.

GamesIndustry.biz has another chart, which is multiplatform, meaning that it takes into account all the sales generated by a title, regardless of the platforms it is released for, which paints a rather different picture. Wii Fit is still at the top and Nintendo still has five games in the top ten but its domination is somewhat reduced.

FIFA 09, which was not featured in the GfK Chart Track top ten, is at number two, mainly because of the large variety of platforms on which it came out, while Call of Duty: World at War climbs up to the third spot. Resident Evil 5 also manages to beat out both Wii Play and Mario Kart Wii to reach number four, while Professor Layton and the Curious Village sits at number seven. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, Street Fighter IV and Guitar Hero: World Tour are bringing up the rear.
