As we've previously reported, the Nintendo DSi has managed to sell more than 171,000 units in its first weekend, which pretty much means that the initial stock of the device has been sold out faster than Nintendo can replace it.

Even if the DSi is being introduced as a replacement of the DS Lite, Nintendo is still saying that it has managed to market over 16,000 of its units. This basically means that the DS line has succeeded to outsell all other gaming consoles in Japan, and has also managed to perform better than the PSP-3000, which was launched a few weeks ago.

The PlayStation Portable has taken second place in hardware sales, with a little over 50,000 units sold in one week. But the best news for Sony is that its home console, the PlayStation 3, has managed to bounce back from historical low sales, in order to beat the Xbox 360, for the first time in more than one month.

The Sony-made gaming console has sold 39,587 devices in one week, while the Xbox 360 only managed to move 6,119 machines. The strength of the PS3 is probably due to the release of new video games for the platform, like LittleBigPlanet, GTA IV and Gran Turismo 5: Prologue.

With just 23,123 units sold, the Nintendo Wii has sunk to an unusually low fourth place in the hardware charts, while the PlayStation 2 was fifth, and the Microsoft made Xbox 360 came in at six.

In the video games charts, the PlayStation 3 version of Grand Theft Auto IV was in first place, with sales of 133,000 units in one week, while LittleBigPlanet entered the chart at number 3 with 52,000 copies sold. The Xbox 360 version of GTA IV is at number eight, with 34,000 copies moved.
