The Unbeatables love it? we love it too, but from a distance

After some time since it has been released on the Japanese specialized market, the already famous DS Lite conquers the Brits. If you remember, Nintendo has launched last week the royal pink version of the Lite, a trendy color, but nevertheless weird for a gaming console. Come on guys? We all like to show off our gadgets or clothes, but I don't know how many of us would prefer the 'pink crayon' instead of the classical black & white.

However, we are still craving to get our hands on Nintendo's latest gadget, and we will eventually, but in the mean time, I, for one, am in a constant search of DS Lite news or reviews. And, fortunate for me, I have found a really interesting review on the gadget made by the 'Unbeatable' British editors.

As we all knew already, the features included in this little thing are great and most of all advanced. And I'm not talking only about the old DS, but also about the portable gaming console market as a whole. And I especially like it because its backward compatible, as any user can play his/her favorite game, even if it has been released some time ago.

If you remember, 'the aged' DS had a little stylus which could not be easily maneuvered, a big screen, for a portable I mean, and a kind of bulky design.

Oh well?. this newly-released portable console seems to be great. It has round edges and sleek design, small, but handy buttons, and, what's more important, a light weight - 20 % lighter than the DS at 230g.

"There's no downloading of programs or extra gadgets to attach - just switch on and start playing. The only likely problem is when the DS Lite is initially switched on the text is in Japanese which unfortunately no one at Unbeatable speaks. But it is easy to get to the universal section and change the language to plain 'ol English. From there it's a case of either popping in the new DS Lite cartridge at the back or an older game in the front socket to start playing," comment Unbeatable's editors.

And now comes the hardcore - the double touchscreen which can be handled easily with your finger or the stylus, a thicker and longer pen than the one featured by the DS. You can even use the stylus to draw pictures and then send your work of art to a friend using the built-in PictoChat capability.

On the other hand, there is the Wi-Fi function which detects a network when you bump into one, and allows no less than 16 players to benefit from the same local network. And, in order for you to get the most of any game, the DS Lites come with special developed speakers which are placed on both sides of the screens and a volume button on the front together with a headphone port.

"The controls have been improved on and shrunk down in size but this hasn't made them any less efficient. On the left is the D-pad which is ? the size of the original and to the right of the screen are the four face buttons (X,Y,A and B) to manage movement. The start and select button have been reduced in size too and are now full circles placed on the right of the bottom screen", further write the Unbeatables.
