Nintendo has faced a strong challenge from other home consoles and from rival mobile devices from Apple, but the company seems to be pretty much unconcerned about its perceived decline, saying that it has the strength to create more impressive video game and hardware in the near future.

Regie Fils-Aime, who is the president of Nintendo of America, has appeared on CNET and said that his firm is not concerned about competition from the iPhone, saying, “You win by great content.”

He added, “We’re fortunate to have franchises like Mario, like Zelda, like Donkey Kong. All of these great franchises motivate consumers to buy the software, and what they’re looking for is that in-depth, great experience – and that’s what we offer.”

Ever since the rise of the iPhone Nintendo has taken great care to explain that gaming on those platforms was more limited than that on the DS family of devices.

When talking about the Nintendo Wii home console Fils-Aime has also expressed little concern, saying that “It’s important to remember that the gaming industry is cyclical. There’re lots of systems sold early on, and then later on it’s driven by software. So for us, 2008, 2009 and 2010 were fantastic software years and that’s where the profit is made.”

The executive has emphasized the performance of the recently released red version of the Wii console, suggesting that Nintendo could still sell a lot more of its current hardware.

Nintendo has previously suggested that late adopters could push its home platform forward, perhaps coupled with a further price cut.

2011 will witness Nintendo release the 3DS handheld, which is coming on February 26 in Japan, allowing three dimensional gaming devices to be experienced on the go and without any special glasses.

There are also rumors that the E3 trade show could see the announcement of a Wii HD console.
