Famitsu has just published the yearly total sales charts for Japan, showing that Nintendo clearly dominated the Japanese market, with the only other game that managed to sneak into the top 10 being Grand Theft Auto 5 for the PlayStation 3.

The sales charts included purchases made up to December 29, 2013, and the report included hardware sales too, showing Nintendo and Sony's results on the Japanese market over the past year.

The Nintendo 3DS handheld console sold close to 5 million units on the domestic market last year alone, the device marking more than 14.5 million total sales worldwide.

Its bigger brother the Wii U managed to sell 880k units during 2013, while Sony's PlayStation Vita sales amounted to 1.2 million units, a considerable portion of the global estimates of 7.2 million units sold.

The game sales top 10 is as follows, courtesy of NintendoLife, showing a clear lead for Pokemon XY and Monster Hunter 4:

1- Pokemon X and Y (3DS) - 3,976,829 2 - Monster Hunter 4 (3DS) - 3,293,312 3 - Animal Crossing: New Leaf (3DS) - 1,730,182 (lifetime to date: 4,017,159) 4 - Tomodachi Collection (3DS) - 1,580,067 5 - Dragon Quest VII (3DS) - 1,227,377 6 - Puzzle & Dragons Z (3DS) - 1,005,697 7 - Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (3DS) - 982,737 8 - Grand Theft Auto V (PS3) - 605,882 9 - New Super Mario Bros. U (Wii U) - 584,479 (lifetime to date: 965,794) 10 - Wii Party U (Wii U) – 518,766

The 3DS seems to be the dominating platform in Japan, with no Vita games showing up in the top 10 yet and the Wii U and PlayStation 3 consoles only appearing at the end of the spectrum.
