14 DAY TRIAL // Nintendo has confirmed that it's just released a new firmware update for its 3DS handheld platform, taking the portable console's software to version 5.0.0 and bringing quite a few improvements both to its general performance and its eShop online store.
Nintendo's 3DS may have had a rocky start due to its high price, but thanks to an early price cut, the Japanese company turned things around and now the 3DS is quite popular, even spawning the bigger 3DS XL variation.
Now, Nintendo has confirmed that firmware update 5.0.0 is available for download within the different regions of the world.
Quite a few improvements are included in the new software, like a Download Later option for the eShop as well as the ability to download future firmware updates in the background.

Nintendo eShop improvements
- Users will no longer need to close the Nintendo eShop application to ensure the "Download Later" feature works while the Nintendo 3DS is in Sleep Mode. - Other improvements to usability have been made, including the ability to download software update data in the background.
Improvements to system stability and usability
- Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.
Bear in mind, however, that this is an incremental software update, and can only be applied if you're already running the latest firmware. If not, you need to install each new software in order to gain the different features added by them.
For example, Nintendo highlighted some of the things that aren't included in update 5.0.0.

The new Nintendo 3DS software update can be downloaded by connecting the console to a wireless internet connection.
