Just as Nintendo's fiscal year is coming to an end, MCV unveils the company's latest figures at a global, European and UK level for both consoles: Wii and DS. Known for its dual screens and touch screen capabilities, the DS has pushed Nintendo into setting their own sales bar higher. As for the Wii's motion sensitivity, it has brought families and friends closer than ever. As a result, here are the numbers.

For the DS, the figures for sold units since launch are:

- Global: 40 million - Europe: 11 million - UK: 3.1 million

As for the Wii:

- Global: 5.84 million - Euro: 1.3 million - UK: 438,000

The UK general manager said: "We've sold close to 438,000 Wiis in the UK in five months. It's really hard to have targets - we have seen unprecedented demand. Yes, we set targets originally and we have definitely exceeded those. They are continually being re-assessed all the time."

What I don't understand is why this breaking news is up on MCV. Nintendo is well known for their all time winning consoles (handhelds or not). This is just another reminder really of how well Nintendo is doing and how popular its gaming systems are. After all, they are among the first (if not the first) to release real gaming consoles and not just for youngsters, but for grownups as well.
