Company will continue to offer support until the end of 2010

Nimbuzz, the company behind the software product with the same name, announced that its variant for Windows Mobile had been discontinued and would no longer be available for download. The reason stated by the developer has to do with the platform's limitations.

Those who have the application installed on their handsets will still benefit from support until the end of 2010, but further updates to the program are not to be expected.

[admark=1]A big part in the company's decision was played by Microsoft's announcement to also back away from the aging operating system and concentrate on the much-anticipated Windows Phone 7 platform. Nimbuzz is taking into consideration the release of its product for Microsoft's new OS, but at the moment, they are waiting for the first devices to show up in order to make that decision.

For those who don't know what Nimbuzz is all about - the multi award-winning application allows phone users to enjoy free and low-cost mobile calls, free instant messaging, social networking and other communication from their Internet-enabled mobile devices via Wi-Fi, 3G, 2G or GPRS connection. Social networks and communities supported by Nimbuzz include Skype, Facebook, Windows Live Messenger (MSN), GoogleTalk, Twitter, Yahoo!, AIM, MySpace, ICQ, GaduGadu, Hyves, StudiVZ, Giovani and others. The application has passed the 15 million registration mark and has users in more than 200 countries.

Nimbuzz is not the first company to step away from the Windows Mobile platform. Another big name in the field, Skype, also dropped Windows Mobile support earlier this year, for the same reasons.

Even though Nimbuzz will no longer be updated, Windows Mobile users can still use the latest version on their phones. The software can be downloaded for free here. Nimbuzz is also available for Android, iPhone, Symbian, Java and Blackberry, and it can also be used from the PC, Mac or Web.
