Putting Android on a camera might be considered the perfect scenario by some, or a complete turn-off. Nevertheless, Nikon is taking the first part of the phrase to be accurate, so it’s offering Android once again with its latest addition to the Coolpix lineup.

Meet the new Nikon Coolpix S810, a camera that can be considered the successor of the S800c (in terms of OSes) launched back in 2012 and running Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread. At the time, the camera was considered to be quite a prize, especially since most smartphones released back then came running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box.

With the S810c, users will be getting Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, which granted, isn't Android 4.4 KitKat, but since a lot of smartphones and tablets on the market today run the above mentioned OS, it shouldn't be considered such a downside.

The only manufacturer offering a camera running Android is Samsung, with its Galaxy Camera 2 that comes equipped with the more advanced Android 4.3 out of the box.

The most important benefit of having Android on the camera is the ability to access apps, so users have the opportunity to use different apps to shoot, including the Nikon one, of course.

Furthermore, photographers will be able to take advantage of a full host of editing apps, because they can access the Google Play Store.

On top of that, the built-in Wi-Fi offers users the opportunity to upload the photographs in the cloud instantly. From there, they can easily be shared with friends and family via email or social media. Moreover, the new Nikon Coolpix S810c will amaze you by being multi-functional. Because it has a stereo headphone jack, owners can use the camera as a media player, as well.

Furthermore, the Coolpix S810c has a new comment function to take advantage of, which allows users to take notes up to 400 characters in length, immediately after the shutter is released.

After which, one can play back the comment-enhanced photos in a Timeline View that shows you the images in a chronological way.

Moving on to what specifications you can expect to find if you purchase the camera, the Coolpix S810c comes with a 3.7-inch 1.2million-dot-resolution touch-screen LCD. The camera part has a 16-megapixel BSI CMOS sensor and 12x f3.3-6.3 25-300mm lens, which seems to be the same as the Nikon Coolpix S6800.

The S810c also comes with a built-in GPS that’s to be used for geotagging photographs.

So if this Android camera sounds good to you, you should know that Nikon has scheduled the device for retail launch in early May for the price of $349.95 / €252.
