Last year, in November, the Nike Amp+ wristband made its first appearance in the pages of Men?s Health, but the product has not been available to customers until now. The wait was a long one, but some might argue that it was worth it.

Nike has finally unveiled the Nike Amp+ Sport Remote Control, the wristwatch that also functions as a control for Nike+ iPod Sport kit users. With instant voice feedback of time, distance pace and calories, it makes perfect sense for anyone using the Nike+iPod Sport Kit and Nike+ Ready shoes. Although primarily intended to be a companion to the existing products, the company describes it as a stylish, unique timepiece even if it is by itself. The Nike Amp+ is available in four models with varying color combinations such as black band with a red time display, a red and black band with a red time display, a blue band with an orange time display and a black and orange band with an orange time display. The led display can show the time when a certain button is pushed and it will indicate the iPod control button that was just pushed, but for the most part it will be inactive, conserving battery time and looking less like a gaudy nerd toy. Selling for $80, the Nike Amp+ only comes in one size, but the polyurethane strap can be cut to each user?s preference to ensure a comfortable fit and is rated as water resistant at a depth of up to 50 meters.

While primarily intended for runners, the Nike Amp+ is equally useful for anybody that enjoys activities while listening to music with the iPod safely tucked away. While the running information won?t be relevant, the device still makes for a very practical and accessible iPod control method.
