Wisteria Lane will have one woman less: Nicollette Sheridan is leaving “Desperate Housewives”

Since “Desperate Housewives” premiered on ABC in October 2004, introducing the world to the group of women on Wisteria Lane, there have been nothing but kind words said about the dramedy and its impressive cast. Fans will have, however, to get accustomed to seeing one character less, as ABC has just officially confirmed that Nicollette Sheridan will be leaving the show.

As fans must remember, Nicollette’s character, Edie Britt, left the show before – not once, but twice actually. This time, however, it’s for good and it’s not just a twist in the plot meant to make “Desperate Housewives” more interesting for the audiences. ABC has confirmed that Sheridan will soon no longer be part of the cast, although it has refused to comment on when that may happen, or, most importantly, how.

“Yes, [it’s] confirmed. Nicollette had a great time on the show and is looking forward to her next project.” a spokesperson for the network tells Extra. However, as per a Reuters report, Britt’s future might include a car crash that will kill her off as gracefully as possible, “after dodging a plot hatched by shady new screen husband Dave Williams,” as a columnist for E! Online, Ted Casablanca, has learned from sources on the set of the hit show.

While spokespersons for the network and Sheridan have refused to make any comments on the imminent departure, fans have already taken to dedicated forums to express their hope that Britt makes it at least until the end of the season. Be that as it may, the vampish, devilish Britt will certainly be missed, it is being said – and all the more so if the network does not come up with a replacement that can fill her rather large shoes.

As of 2004, when it premiered on ABC, “Desperate Housewives” has constantly been a major favorite with the public and critics alike. Winner of several Golden Globes, Emmys and SAG awards, it is one of the best rated shows for its demographic, reaching an audience of more than 115 million viewers worldwide in April 2007.
