14 DAY TRIAL // After an extended maternity leave and time away from the spotlight to see to her gorgeous family, as well as the successful launch of her own fashion line, Nicole Richie, the daughter of the legendary crooner Lionel Richie, is ready to make her return to television. The star is now working on a scripted comedy series that has already been picked up by ABC, as Richie herself states on her official blog.
The show, which is yet to be officially named, will not only see the diminutive star as producer and creator, but also as main star. In the announcement made to her fans, Nicole says she’s absolutely ecstatic about the project and can hardly wait to properly sink her teeth in it. The show will be inspired from her experience as a mother and businesswoman, and her successful attempts at combining the both, she also mentions.
“I am so excited to announce that I am officially working on a television project! I am creating a half hour scripted comedy for ABC in which I will be starring in, as well as producing. The story revolves around a young, modern and professional woman who must balance her business and family relationships. She must deal with, and navigate the many ideas of what a woman’s role is: modern vs. traditional,” Nicole says in the statement posted on her official blog.
Because work on the project has just recently started, more details on it are not available, Richie explains. “Lately, I have been surrounded by many different women of all ages and walks of life. It amazes me to watch and observe how many different ideas there are about what a woman’s role should be in this era. I’ve taken these fascinating ideas, and compiled them into something that I think will be very special (and funny!). We’re still in the very early stages and I can’t wait to share more with you soon!” she says.
Judging from fans’ response, many were those who wanted to see Richie return to television, from where she withdrew once E! canceled her and best friend Paris Hilton’s reality show “The Simple Life” after a few successful seasons. Keep an eye on this space for details on it.
