9-year-old star says Australian actress was a bit weird on ad set

After starring in the box-office and critical hit “Slumdog Millionaire,” young actress Rubina Ali set another record when she officially became the youngest person to pen an autobiography. “Slumdog Dreaming: My Journey to the Stars” also covers shooting an ad for French Schweppes with Australian star Nicole Kidman, of who Rubina says was “strange” and perhaps “shy,” the Daily Mail informs.

The ad, released a while back, had the two in a fairy tale-like type of scenario, where Kidman was a princess and Rubina played a young girl enchanted by her beauty. While beautifully shot and edited, the ad failed to get the expected reaction because of the twisted and rather odd plotline that got many viewers completely confused as to the message it was trying to send. You can see the entire ad below.

Speaking of what it was like to work with such a big Hollywood star, Rubina says in her book it was not really what she had expected, in the sense that she barely got to see Nicole, since she was constantly avoiding coming out of her trailer, lest the sun ruined her alabaster complexion. The little time they did spend together, the young star reveals, she found Kidman “strange.” “I really liked her, but she was very quiet and didn’t speak much. I think she was a bit shy.” Ali adds of Kidman’s behavior.

As we were also telling you a while back, Rubina Ali “wrote” her biographical, 92-page book with the help of journalist Divya Dugar in a bid to show the world the poor conditions in which she lived, pre- and post- “Slumdog Millionaire.” Although she’s still at a very young age, Ali’s name has generated plenty of media interest in recent months, especially when rumors broke in the press that her own father tried to sell her for £200,000, saying she was an “Oscar child” by means of “advertising.”

At the time the scandal made headlines all around the world, Rafiq Qureshi, Ali’s father, strongly denied the claims, pointing out he and other members of the family had been set up by News of the World, the publication that offered to buy the girl from him using undercover reporters. “They tricked us into this fakery but we came out unscathed. It was then it occurred to me they were making a deal on my child. I put the phone down and told them we were leaving the hotel.” Qureshi was telling the media back in April.
