DotEmu and Micro?ds, two developers from France, have announced the release of a new game for smartphones: Nicky Boom - a classic platform/puzzle game first released back in 1992 (by Micro?ds) for PC, Atari ST and Commodore Amiga.

The game gives you the role of Nicky Boom, a young boy who has to save his grandfather from Zoldrane, an evil witch who lives in a dark dungeon. While making your way to the dungeon, you have to defeat monsters, discover secret passages, avoid traps, use teleportation and become stronger by finding various shields and springs. There are four different worlds to play in and lots of evil creatures to fight with, all accompanied by nice graphics and the original music of the game, remastered to fit today's times.

"We are really pleased to be able to give a new life to this platform/puzzle game which will remind some of us of childhood memories," says Xavier Liard, Chief Executive Officer at DotEmu. "The original game has been faithfully adapted, while ensuring optimal gameplay for mobile phones. We are willing to seduce the nostalgics, but also casual gamers."

Roch Roustan, Managing Director at Micro?ds, further said: "We are very happy to have given this license to DotEmu, since their teams have been able to faithfully reproduce the original game. Reliving Nicky Boom on today's platforms such as mobile phones is giving a new breath of air to video games created in the early nineties: it perfectly matches our creative and valorisation approach."

Besides being released for the mobile platform, Nicky Boom can also be played online, on its official website found at this address.

For the moment, Nicky Boom can be bought only for Windows Mobile (Pocket PC plus Smartphone) and Palm OS, from the above-mentioned website. Owners of Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Motorola smartphones will be able to enjoy the game too, as a Symbian (S60 and UIQ) version of Nicky Boom is also in the works.
