He was, a few years ago, one of the hottest teen idols on the pop scene. Nick Lachey seemed to have it all, from a gorgeous wife to a brilliant career. Now, he’ll be documenting his music comeback in a new reality show.

Many remember VH1’s “Newlyweds” with Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson, also known as the show that confirmed the urban legend that reality television is the death of love / marriage.

Not much has been heard of Lachey ever since, except for a music album that failed to get even a lukewarm reaction from fans and critics alike – perhaps mostly because it was about the split from Simpson.

Now, the former boy-band-er is looking to make his comeback on the music scene – and what better way is there to do this than by having a reality show about it.

HollywoodLife reports that VH1 is backing Lachey in his efforts, by agreeing to produce the reality show that would see him (and not only) attempt to re-conquer the pop charts.

“Have you been wondering what Nick Lachey has been doing for the past FIVE years? You’re about to find out, as the 36-year-old singer, and former hubby to Jessica Simpson, is returning to reality TV,” HollywoodLife proudly announces.

“A source close to the singer tells HollywoodLife that Nick has signed on to do a reality show set to air on VH1,” says the same e-zine.

“It will follow his life and mainly focus on his music career. The show will show him getting back into the music industry and feature his former 98 Degrees band mates,” the well-placed insider reveals.

Since the show will also probably focus on at least some aspects of Nick’s personal life, one can’t help but wonder whether his current girlfriend (and the one for whom he parted ways with Simpson), Vanessa Minnillo, will also be on it.

Perhaps not wanting to repeat the same mistake he did by going public with his personal life, this time around, Nick will keep a lid on his longtime relationship with Vanessa.

“Vanessa will be on it some, but it’s not going to be about their relationship… at all,” dishes the same insider.

HollywoodLife tried to contact VH1 for comment but, so far, it has come up empty-handed. More details on this are bound to emerge soon – so make sure you keep an eye on this space for when they do.
