Hollywood is literally awash with reports of Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon expecting their first child, after the diva underwent fertility treatment. Mariah’s publicist remains mum on the topic, as also is the singer herself – but husband Nick Cannon does have a thing or two to say, and he does so on his official Twitter page.

For weeks now, reports have been making the rounds and gaining momentum that Mariah Carey is pregnant. This, unnamed sources close to the singer and actress say, explains why she’s also gaining weight, as well as why she’s chosen to drop out of a film one month ahead of it going into production, especially since it’s only now that Mariah is getting the attention she’s always wanted for her acting job.

Since rumors first started to emerge in the tabs a couple of weeks ago, Mariah’s reps has issued only a handful of denials, which are not exactly so. In other words, they only say they’re not at liberty to discuss personal matters of this kind, which is the same stand that Nick also makes on his Twitter. “If & when my wife is ready to make ANY announcements about private matters she will do it personally. Thanks for being respectful GodBless,” he tweets in response to the countless rumors about a baby.

As we were also telling you a while back, though the Carey-Cannon couple has been plagued before by rumors of a pregnancy, what makes this time different is Mariah’s backing out of a new film on such a short notice. After doing “Precious” and finally proving critics that she too can do serious acting if she’s given the chance, it was to be expected that she pursue the career and, as the saying goes, strike the iron while it’s hot.

“Mariah Carey abruptly pulled out of her role in Tyler Perry’s new film this week, People has learned, sparking renewed speculation the singer / actress is pregnant. Carey, who won acclaim for her work in Precious, was set to appear in the adaptation of Ntozake Shange’s 1975 play For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf. Filming was set to start next month,” People magazine reported a short while ago.
