Google pushed Android 2.3.6 to Nexus S devices earlier this month, but users reported several issues after installing the update.

Following these reports, Google pulled the update and promised to come back with a another Android 2.3.6 build without the reported issues.

Three weeks after the initial roll out of the update, Google is ready to deploy a newer build of the Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread update for Nexus S.

It appears Nexus S users that installed the original Android 2.3.6 build earlier this month, experience problems with Wi-Fi tethering.

However, the latest GRK39F build does not seem to create any problems at all, reports claim.

Although the update rolls out OTA (over the air), it will probably take some time until all Nexus S users will be able to upgrade to Android 2.3.6.

Fortunately, users can install the update manually, as Google made the file available for download.

Obviously, those with rooted device will have to unroot or wait for a valid version of the update to come live.

Otherwise, as long as your Nexus S is on GRJ22 build you will be able to update the smartphone manually to Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread.

Simply download the file from here and rename it to “update.zip.” Copy the file to the root of the SD memory card and power off the Nexus S.

Then, switch it on again by pressing Volume up and the power button. A white screen will be displayed on the screen where you select the “Recovery”option.

As soon as an exclamation sign and a triangle show up on the screen, press both power and volume up buttons to enter the bootloader.

From the menu select “Apply SD card “update.zip” and wait for the phone to finish installing the update.

The phone will automatically reboot as soon as the update process is complete.
